About Samaná — the Dominican Republic's most beautiful peninsula
The Samaná peninsula is a 45-km strip of tropical mountains, coconut jungle and turquoise bays on the north-eastern coast of the Dominican Republic. It's home to Cayo Levantado ('Bacardi Island'), Playa Rincón (regularly ranked among the world's top 10 beaches), the El Limón waterfall, and — between January and March — the annual humpback whale migration in Samaná Bay.
The main tourist areas are Santa Bárbara de Samaná (the capital), Las Galeras (quiet, remote east tip) and Las Terrenas (the international beach town on the north coast). Every property from Bahía Príncipe Grand Samaná to boutique guesthouses in Las Galeras is a comfortable ride away with a private transfer.

The route uses the Coral Highway north, cuts through the Miches / Sabana de la Mar plain and crosses the new Samaná Bay bridge — a scenic drive through untouched countryside and coconut plantations.
