About Uvero Alto — Punta Cana's quietest beaches
Uvero Alto is the northernmost resort zone in the Punta Cana region, stretching from Macao Beach in the south to the rural fishing village of Uvero Alto in the north. Beaches here are noticeably wider, whiter and quieter than Bávaro, with fewer street vendors and a more 'end of the road' feel. It's where Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Excellence Punta Cana, Dreams Macao Beach, Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts, Breathless, Zoetry Agua and Hideaway at Royalton are located.
The area is also the gateway to Macao Beach itself — the wild surfing beach where most buggy and ATV excursions end up — and to the Anamuya mountains, home to the country's best zip-line operations. If you picked Uvero Alto for your stay, you traded 20 extra minutes of drive time for a quieter, less crowded beach experience.
Travel time and distance: PUJ to Uvero Alto
Distance from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) to central Uvero Alto: approximately 35-40 km depending on the resort. Travel time in a private vehicle: 40 to 50 minutes. The route uses Boulevard Turístico del Este all the way north, passing the Bávaro turnoff, the Bahia Principe complex and the Macao roundabout before reaching the Uvero Alto access roads.
There are no toll booths on this route. Traffic is generally lighter than the Bávaro section, but the last 5-10 km on the Uvero Alto internal road is unlit at night — another reason to skip the street taxi and book a vetted driver who knows the route. A shared shuttle on the same trip can easily reach 2 hours because it drops at Bávaro hotels first.

Uvero Alto is the worst zone for shared shuttles. Almost every shared route stops in Bávaro before continuing north — so a 'shuttle to Hard Rock' often means 90 minutes circling Bávaro before you finally start heading to your hotel. PUJ has open-air thatched terminals. After landing, follow signs to immigration (10-15 minutes typically) with your passport and e-ticket card ready. Dominican tourist tax is already included in your airline ticket.
For Uvero Alto arrivals, bring a light snack — the drive is 45 minutes from the airport and there are no convenience stops along Boulevard Turístico del Este. Your Next Ride driver carries cold bottled water in every vehicle, but no food.
