Bávaro is the most developed and most visited resort area in the Dominican Republic, stretching roughly 12 km along the east coast from Cabeza de Toro in the south to Arena Gorda and El Cortecito in the north. It concentrates the largest cluster of all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean — Riu, Barceló, Iberostar, Princess, Meliá, Catalonia, Grand Palladium, Bahia Principe, Royalton, Hideaway, TRS Turquesa, Paradisus, Be Live, Occidental, Whala, Jewel and dozens more.
The zone is also home to the El Cortecito fishing village, Los Corales beach, the Downtown Punta Cana mall, Coco Bongo and most of the area's restaurants and night-out venues. Travel time and distance: PUJ to Bávaro
Distance from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) to central Bávaro: approximately 22 km. Travel time in a private vehicle: 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the exact hotel and time of day. The route follows Boulevard Turístico del Este, a modern 4-lane road maintained by the Punta Cana Group, with no toll booths between PUJ and Bávaro.
Peak traffic windows are 4:00-6:00 PM (resort shift change at Cruce de Verón) and Sunday afternoons. Even then, a private direct transfer rarely exceeds 35 minutes. A shared shuttle on the same route can easily reach 90 minutes because it stops at 5-8 other hotels before yours — exactly the scenario we built Next Ride to avoid.
Why choose a private transfer to Bávaro (instead of a taxi or shared shuttle)
There are no metered taxis at PUJ and no Uber service in Punta Cana. Street taxis quote between $40 and $90 USD for the same Bávaro route depending on the time, the driver and how tired you look. Vehicles are often 10-15 years old, child seats are practically non-existent and credit cards are rarely accepted.

Arrival tips at PUJ for the Bávaro route
Punta Cana Airport has open-air thatched-roof terminals. After landing, follow the signs to immigration (about 10-15 minutes on a typical day, longer during the December-March peak). Your e-ticket card and passport are required — Dominican tourist tax is now included in your airline ticket, so no extra payment is needed.
After baggage claim and customs, walk straight through the arrivals doors. Your Next Ride driver waits just outside the terminal, on the right side, holding a printed sign with your name. Do not accept rides from anyone approaching you inside the terminal or in the parking lot offering 'taxi' or 'transfer' — those are unlicensed operators not affiliated with Next Ride. Your driver will only meet you at the official pickup point with your name on the sign.
