About Puerto Plata — the DR's north-coast classic
Puerto Plata is the oldest tourism area in the Dominican Republic, on the country's Amber Coast. It combines a historic Victorian city (San Felipe Fortress, the Malecón waterfront), long beaches like Playa Dorada and Cofresí, and the neighbouring adventure hubs of Sosúa (diving) and Cabarete (kitesurfing capital of the Caribbean).
Some guests fly into POP (Puerto Plata's own airport) but many prefer PUJ for better long-haul connections and choose a private transfer to reach their north-coast resort. Distance and travel time: PUJ to Puerto Plata
Distance from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) to Puerto Plata: approximately 280 km. Travel time in a private vehicle: 3 h 45 min to 4 h 15 min depending on the final destination (Cofresí is closer, Cabarete adds 30 minutes). The route runs on the Coral Highway, then crosses the Samaná Bay bridge, cuts through Nagua and follows the north-coast highway west.

Why choose a private transfer
Uber does not operate this route. Street taxis at PUJ quote $500-$700 USD in older vehicles with no child seats. Public transport (guagua chain) takes 8-10 hours with 3 to 4 transfers and no A/C guarantee.
