About Bayahibe — the Caribbean village beach
Bayahibe is a small Dominican fishing village turned beach destination, located on the south coast about 70 minutes west of Punta Cana. The water here is calmer and bluer than Bávaro — protected by Catalina Island and the eastern reef — and the vibe is much more 'authentic Caribbean village' than 'big resort strip'. Even the largest hotels (Dreams La Romana, Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus, Viva Wyndham Dominicus, Be Live Canoa, Sunscape Dominicus) are noticeably more relaxed and family-oriented.
Bayahibe is also the main embarkation port for Isla Saona and Isla Catalina excursions, the two most popular boat tours in the Dominican Republic. If you booked a stay in Bayahibe or Dominicus, you'll have these tours practically at your doorstep — no 90-minute bus from Bávaro.
Travel time and distance: PUJ to Bayahibe
Distance from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) to Bayahibe village: approximately 90-100 km. Travel time in a private vehicle: 60 to 75 minutes. The route uses Highway DR-3 west toward La Romana, then exits south on the Bayahibe access road.
DR-3 is a modern, well-maintained 4-lane toll highway (tolls included in your transfer fare). It is the same road used to reach La Romana, Casa de Campo, the La Romana cruise port and continues all the way to Santo Domingo. Lighting is good and the road is patrolled — comfortable for night transfers.
Why choose a private transfer to Bayahibe
70 minutes is long enough that a shared shuttle becomes painful — multiple hotel pickups in Bávaro before even leaving Punta Cana can push the actual trip past 3 hours. Street taxis at PUJ rarely accept the Bayahibe trip at a fair price (expect $130-200 USD with no fixed rate), and credit cards are usually refused for long-distance rides.
A private Next Ride transfer is direct and predictable: flat $110 SUV / $145 van confirmed in writing, single bilingual driver, modern A/C vehicle, bottled water and tolls included. The same flat rate covers every resort and villa in Dominicus, Bayahibe, Catalonia Royal La Romana and the Casa de Campo perimeter.
For Saona Island day-trippers, we can also handle same-day or next-day excursion pickups from your Bayahibe hotel to the marina, which is just 5 minutes away — much faster than the Bávaro pickup chain.
Arrival tips at PUJ for the Bayahibe route
PUJ arrival flow is the same as any other zone — immigration, baggage, customs, then through the arrivals doors. Your Next Ride driver waits with a printed sign showing your name. WhatsApp number shared 24 hours before your flight.
Because the drive is 70+ minutes, we strongly recommend grabbing a coffee or snack at PUJ before departing. There is one safe service area on DR-3 (Total Bayahibe / Sirenas) about 45 minutes in — your driver can stop there on request, but most guests prefer to push straight to the hotel.
If you're a cruise passenger heading to Sans Souci or the La Romana cruise port, mention it on booking so we can prep luggage cart assistance at the terminal entrance.
